Character Info:
Canon or Original?: Original
Name/Nickname (s): Brianna Alyssa Lorings – Bri
Age: Sixteen
Year: Sixth
Birthday: August 25, 1961
House: Ravenclaw
Blood: Half-blood
Wand: 12", Oak, with one dragon heartstring.
Broomstick: A Comet 260, the one item she'd choose if she could have any magical object she wanted.
Physical Description:
Though you certainly can't say Miss Lorings is positively gorgeous, you honestly can't say she's ugly either. Rather pale and awfully thin, despite the fact that she is in fact rather athletic, her body structure sometimes even gives the impression that she could break with the softest of touches. Naturally straight, sandy blonde locks frame the heart-shaped face of this teenager regularly, as Brianna positively /hates/ pulling it back (save for Quidditch matches with her father and cousins at family gatherings and special occasions), and dark chocolaty brown eyes stand out most against her pallid complexion. She's rather tall for her age, 6'5, often mistaken as a seventh year by those she doesn't know. Outside of school her appearance varies, sometimes all-out casual, at other times fairly nice or formal.
Personality:
There are a fair number of words that would describe Bri, as, to put it bluntly, she is actually rather average for her age. Unlike most in her year, the teenager is rather modest, always giving others a chance in the spotlight instead of herself, even if once in a while she does feel proud of her accomplishments. Bri is a bit on the quiet side, spending many of her days absorbed in a biography or guide of some sort. She positively /loathes/ extremely loud noises, somehow causing her frustration and loss of control over the horrible temper she has when extremely irritated.
Miss Lorings is rather gifted when it comes to Transfiguration (her largest ambition to become an Animagi in the future), though, unfortunately, receives failing marks in Potions daily. She is deathly afraid of the dark, and, despite her tendency to waste most of her summer swimming, is terrified of the ocean (The cause being a scary movie Bri had seen when she was eight. Surprisingly, she still hasn't gotten over it.).
All in all, Brianna is a calm, collected, loyal, yet semi-shy girl that makes one heck of a friend once you really get to know her.
History:
Father: Todd Lorings
Mother: Miranda White (Deceased)
Sibling (s): None
Overall History: Born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 25, 1961, Brianna Alyssa Lorings, named after her grandmother Alyssa Reinhert, spent a good eight years of her life living in a rather small house in the very outskirts of Boston, her father a lawyer, her mother unemployed.
Despite her father's magical ancestry, the Lorings lived very average lives; Todd was almost always working, every few weeks dealing with something or other in court; Miranda would stay home, keeping the house tidy and making sure to have everything ready for her daughter and husband; Bri continued to attend Lincolns Academy, often found with one of her three best friends, the children she could openly speak with, unafraid to say what she felt and things friends would normally talk about. Indeed, everything was going increasingly well, but nothing as perfect as this can last.
Weeks after Bri's eighth birthday, Miranda Lorings perished in a large car crash.
The news brought nothing but devastation to Todd and Bri, and slowly, Brianna became more and more reluctant to speak; even with her father.
In an attempt to escape the place where the tragedy occurred, Todd quit his job, and the father and daughter moved to England, though it didn't seem to help much. As an only child, Bri felt alone, and was unable to make friends very quickly in the English countryside.
The tables slowly turned as the years flew by (Bri having eventually succeeded in making new friends), bringing us to Brianna's tenth and eleventh birthdays. Strange, unexplainable things had begun to happen in the Lorings' household, Bri sometimes finding herself having a conversation with her cat, the feline actually responding in English. Things would somehow begin to levitate if she was upset or angry.
These were excellent signs to the father.
As was customary at Hogwarts, a letter embossed with the Hogwarts' seal was soon discovered in the mail. Father ecstatic, Bri read the letter over several times, Todd Lorings finally telling her every detail of the school. September the first seemed to come as quickly as a tortoise on a scorching day, but eventually, Bri found herself on the Hogwarts Express, waving good-bye to her father.
Upon arrival she was sorted into the House of Ravenclaw, a grouping of rather intelligent students that appeared to do well in many categories. Unlike the Muggle elementary school she had attended for the past three years since moving, Bri quickly made a friend; Elizabeth, a shy yet sweet muggle-born in the same House Bri had been sorted into. Over time the two girls became inseparable, and since then, life has been going a great deal better for the Lorings.
Likes: Reading, animals (of every kind), playing Quidditch with her family at home, flying, Muggle music (Mozart, Beethoven, some pop), her owl, Transfiguration, puzzles, studying (to a certain extent).
Dislikes: Arrogant jerks that think themselves better than everybody else, loudness (people, music, etc.), bugs (namely spiders), the ocean, complete darkness, liars, Potions, bullies, confined spaces, seafood.
Boggart: A shark. A very large, Great White Shark.
Patronus: A White Bengal Tiger.
Anything Extra?: Since she was three, Miss Brianna Lorings has slept with a tatty golden retriever plushie, a gift she received from her mother on her first birthday. A photo of Todd, Miranda, and Brianna Lorings lies hidden under her pillow, a constant reminder of her life before she moved to England.
One word to describe my character: Quiet.
Role Playing Sample:
"See that girl over there, under the Beech tree by the lake?"
"Brianna Lorings? Yeah, why? She isn't nutty or anything, is she?"
"Well, in my opinion she is. She actually cares more about books than boys."
"Even Sirius Black?"
"Aye, even Sirius Black. Bri's probably one of the only females he /hasn't/ managed to date yet."
"Does she care about boys at all? She always seems to treat them just like everybody else."
"Well, I've heard she's been being a bit /too/ friendly to Peter Pettigrew lately."
"Don't be ridiculous. Bri and Peter? She's only trying to be nice. Pettigrew isn't exactly the most popular guy around."
"You never know. It's impossible to tell with a girl like her."
Little more than six feet away from where this conversation took place sat the young lady in question, indeed seated under the leafy canopy of the tree, large leather-bound book in her lap, dark murky brown optics focused intently on the book marked page in front of her, yet unmoving, not taking in a single word of the biography. A small smile had penetrated Bri's normally calm, laid-back expression, listening carefully to the two females mere feet away from her, who, unfortunately, were not bothering to keep their conversation quiet.
Nutty, am I? Well, I suppose if you have to be a boy-crazy twit to be sane, then yes, I suppose I am.
Tucking a strand of thick, sandy blonde hair behind her ear, her abnormally pale cheeks turned an almost unnoticeable shade of pink at the suggestion that she may actually /like/ Peter Pettigrew. True, the Ravenclaw had given her best effort to be kind to the boy, giving words of encouragement and friendly greetings whenever they ran into each other, though Bri had never considered that her attitude toward him might suggest that she wanted them to get together.
Besides, she thought, I like someone already, and unfortunately, it isn't him.
Indeed, Miss Lorings did in fact harbor a strong liking toward a particular male student, though not a soul knew who it was.
And they never would. Or, at least, they wouldn't for some time. Most likely the day Bri would confess would be sometime after Hogwarts, or, if for some reason she had developed full confidence in herself, later this year; her sixth year at the only place beside her house that she had dared call home.
During summers and holidays, the teenager would live happily with her wizard father, her mother having died in a car crash, leaving Todd Lorings and eight-year-old Bri alone in their small city home.
Abruptly shutting the book still lying in her lap, Bri stood upright, smoothing out her smoke-colored skirt, her facial expression once more calm and collected.
The two girls that had been chatting minutes before had silenced themselves, apparently startled that Bri herself had been looking their way.
Flashing one of her friendly yet far-off gins in response to their false smiles, Bri quite suddenly changed her mind, sliding slowly back to the ground, completely aware of the girls she had heard earlier continuing to gossip quietly, the subject once more being Brianna Alyssa Lorings.
